Emotional intelligence: the ability to understand and manage the emotions of one's self, and others. Daniel Goleman wrote that EI is a better predictor of success than IQ. Really?  Well, we intuitively know the connection between leadership and interpersonal skills.  Emotional intelligence is simply another set of people skills to add to your took kit for developing others.

So take your knowledge of emotional intelligence from intuitive to practical.  In our July program we will discuss what makes a great leader, why leaders fail, and how to get the best from your employees.  Learn why so many smart people do such stupid things. Join us for an informative and entertaining session on emotional intelligence on July 21st at UNO’s Thompson Alumni Center from 7:30 to 9:00 am.

Herb Harden has worked for the Federal Government in a variety of positions in Human Resources for over 30 years, currently holding the position of Manager Learning, Development and Diversity for the 9,000 plus employees of the Central Plains District of the United States Postal Service.  Previous to this Herb served as a Workplace Environment Analyst where he was often called upon to assist with troubled worksites.  Not surprisingly, his efforts to discover the root causes of various workplace issues led to the discovery of a lack of emotional intelligence in one or more of the principal parties. Herb has travelled extensively throughout the United States giving presentations to help managers and supervisors understand how to make their jobs easier by improving their people skills.
