Gallup research makes a stark claim that 88% of organizations do not onboard well (2019). Many organizations focus on policies and paperwork rather than the factors that lead to engagement and retention. Designing an effective onboarding program requires considering multiple factors: outcomes, timing, delivery method, resources, ownership, and partnerships to name a few. In this session, we will explore a model for the decisions to consider when building or revising an onboarding program. After this session, participants will have a framework to build a program that elicits commitment from key stakeholders and captivates new hires.

Participants will be able to identify the impact of onboarding on retention and organizational outcomes. You will be able to utilize a framework to build an onboarding program that elicits commitment from key stakeholders and captivates new hires.

Ginny Curley dedicated the first 25 years of her career helping students transition to a new college – and the last six amazed by the similarities when helping employees transition to a new workplace. Her experiences in student affairs, teaching, organization development, and human resources were built upon the premise that people do best when they are challenged and supported; and organizations do best when they actively embrace the unique talents of their people. Ginny has created and updated onboarding programs to meet the shifting demands of both employees and employers.

Ginny is the founder of Power Your Partnerships, LLC, a consulting practice dedicated to helping family businesses transition to the next generation. She draws upon her personal and professional experiences, a master’s degree in counseling from Creighton University, and a doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
